Sean McCarthy


Sean was raised in Bellevue Newfoundland – an outport fishing community of 350 people. He graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree and a Masters in Business Administration from Memorial University of Newfoundland. Currently residing in St. John’s, Newfoundland, with his wife Debbie, Sean is a proud father of two children who are now pursuing their own careers.

Sean’s professional career has been diverse, he has spent time teaching in post secondary institutions, working within Government as a policy analyst, then leading business development activities across manufacturing, food processing, craft, and small business. This experience paved the way for his next role with an industry association, where he focused on helping Eastern Canada manufactures improve their processes through lean manufacturing, strategic planning, team development, and continuous improvement.

In 2005 Sean joined the DF Barnes team to lead their fabrication activities. Since then, he has helped enhance the company’s strategic focus and overseen the execution of projects in industrial construction, commissioning, start up, small-cap, and maintenance, all with a steadfast commitment to safety and process improvement. Since 2016 Sean has served as the Vice President of the Industrial Group, overseeing significant execution of many diverse projects across different labour models including Building Trades, Single Union and Local 585.

Sean believes in a principle-based approach to management, emphasizing the alignment of vision, strategy, teams, and processes to achieve excellence in execution. His commitment to DF Barnes’ core purpose – “Think Different, Build Better” – is evident in his management style and professional endeavors.
