Responsibilities

KMS Industries is part of the DF Barnes Group of Companies and is located in Woodside Industrial Park, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Our facility includes a fully equipped 12,000 sq. ft. workshop with two 10-ton overhead cranes, as well as a one-acre secure laydown yard with perimeter fencing and video surveillance.

KMS is certified by the Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) to CSA W47.1 and W47.2 standards. We operate under a quality program that meets ASME standard requirements and are certified for pressure piping. Our company also maintains a comprehensive safety program and holds COR certification.

We provide metal fabrication and repair services, marine refits, and related support across Atlantic Canada, offering full fabrication, mechanical, machining, and hydraulic services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Report directly to the Operations Manager
  • Coordinate with Supervisors and/or Lead Hands to determine labour requirements
  • Ensure assigned crew and labour resources are utilized efficiently and productively
  • Work collaboratively with team members to ensure tasks are completed in a timely and logical manner
  • Ensure materials are available, manpower is assigned, and all team members clearly understand their responsibilities
  • Attend and contribute to daily production meetings
  • Develop and communicate work instructions to ensure adherence to job specifications
  • Track and allocate all materials to the appropriate job numbers
  • Obtain required work permits as necessary
  • Maintain regular communication with clients regarding project status
  • Prepare and manage change orders when required
  • Inspect all work prior to Quality Control (QC) inspections
  • Ensure completion and submission of all Quality Assurance (QA) documentation (e.g., Hydrotest Reports, MPI reports)
  • Complete Inspection and Test Reports accurately
  • Identify project shortcomings and provide recommendations for improvement
  • Assist in the development of estimates for small projects (on-site and off-site) as required
  • Ensure all Safety Policies and Procedures are implemented and followed at all times
  • Enforce company policies and procedures consistently
  • Participate in employee evaluations and performance reviews
  • Promote teamwork and a collaborative work environment
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with clients

Safety Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site toolbox meetings
  • Complete pre-job hazard assessments (JHAs) to identify risks
  • Participate in safety and incident investigations and reviews
  • Ensure timely response and corrective action for identified safety issues
  • Maintain knowledge of health and safety standards and ensure compliance
