Overview
DF Barnes Fabrication is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Journeyperson Machinist to join our team in Newfoundland & Labrador. This role is primarily based in our shop at 45 Pepperrell Road, with occasional deployment to field locations to support machining, repair, and maintenance activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining a variety of manual and portable machining equipment, producing high-quality work to precise specifications in both shop and field environments.
Key Responsibilities
• Set up and operate manual and portable machining equipment, including lathes, mills, grinders, flange facers, portable mills, and boring equipment
• Complete machining, repair, and fitting work in a shop environment, with occasional field deployment as required
• Perform on-site flange facing, line boring, and portable milling to meet project requirements
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders
• Machine parts to tight tolerances while maintaining quality standards
• Inspect finished products using precision measuring tools and measuring instruments
• Troubleshoot machining issues and make adjustments to ensure optimal performance and accuracy
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
• Follow all safety policies, procedures, and best practices in the shop and in the field
• Certified Journeyperson Machinist (Red Seal preferred)
• 3–5 years of related machining experience
• Strong working knowledge of manual and portable machining practices
• Experience with flange facers, portable mills, and boring equipment is considered a strong asset
• Willing and able to travel to industrial and field sites as required
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
• High attention to detail with strong problem-solving skills
