Journeyperson Machinist

Position Overview
We are currently seeking a JP Machinist to support a diverse range of machining, fabrication, and mechanical repair activities. This opportunity is well-suited for a skilled manual machinist who takes pride in hands-on work and precision craftsmanship.
The successful candidate will work with conventional machining equipment—including lathes, milling machines, and drill presses—to support the repair and refurbishment of valves, pumps, gearboxes, and other mechanical components. While CNC experience is considered an asset, it is not required; training opportunities will be provided for candidates interested in expanding their skill set.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain manual machining equipment, including lathes, mills, drill presses, shears, and press brakes
- Set up, adjust, and optimize machining tools, fixtures, and workpieces
- Perform machining operations to support the repair of valves, pumps, gearboxes, and related equipment
- Assist with general workshop activities, including fabrication, fitting, and mechanical assembly
- Inspect machined components to ensure compliance with specifications and tolerances
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized workspace in accordance with company and site standards
- Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and operations teams to support ongoing work
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 5–7 years of experience in manual machining
- Strong knowledge of machining principles, tooling selection, feeds, and speeds
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and tolerances
- Solid mechanical aptitude with a willingness to support repair and maintenance activities
- Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to Vale standards
- Willingness to learn CNC machining (training provided)
Qualifications
- Journeyperson Machinist certification
- Experience in industrial maintenance or repair environments
- Familiarity with valve, pump, or gearbox repair processes
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments
- Basic welding and/or fabrication experience
- Strong work ethic and high attention to detail
- Adaptable and capable of managing a variety of tasks in a dynamic environment
- Positive attitude with a commitment to continuous learning and development
